Durante el festival de la palabra de 2019 improvisamos un par de canciones durante una noche en la que surgió algo de espacio en el escenario, y de forma espontanea conocimos al director de tan fenomenal evento, Alberto de Paz, el cual nos extendió una invitación a participar el año siguiente.
Yo ya tenia la idea rondándome por la cabeza de traer un repertorio en español y con canciones originales y pensé que seria magnifico poder estrenar dicho proyecto justo aquí, en Garafia, el pueblo en el que vivo y donde me inspiro a diario para hacer lo que hago. Tome nota mental y me dije a mi misma, empezare a prepararme… luego paso de todo, la pandemia nos tomo de sorpresa, planes se vinieron abajo, tuvimos que cambiar de dirección y reinventar estrategias, incluso un gran incendio consumió gran parte de nuestro monte y afecto a muchas familias… y pensé que el festival seria cancelado como tantísimos otros eventos y por momentos perdí motivación. Pero una mañana de agosto recibí la llamada de Alberto -Hola Yaiza, ¿recuerdas que quería que participaras en el festival?¿sigues Interesada? se realizara el mes que viene- mi respuesta fue un rotundo ¡si! y luego casi al mismo tiempo algo de pánico y carreras para terminar las canciones y ensamblar al equipo de músicos que me acompañarían.
Y de esta manera, mi motivación fue puesta en marcha de nuevo y cerramos el festival con un concierto y la presentación oficial del proyecto “The Awara Lady”. Gracias a Alberto por darme la oportunidad, al ayuntamiento de Garafia y su sector cultural por apoyarnos aportando incluso un local para poder ensayar en vísperas del festival, y a los vecinos que rodean la casa de la cultura por no solo aguantar nuestros ensayos con una sonrisa sino también darnos ánimos en estos tiempos tan inciertos para el sector de eventos.
Debo admitir que se sintió realmente extraño (y aún lo es) actuar para una audiencia que usa mascarillas, la mayoría del feedback que recibes de tu público, como sonrisas u otras expresiones agradables, se pierden… pero al final, estas son circunstancias que no pueden impedirnos continuar adelante. Los aplausos y las palabras de aliento al final de cada actuación nos sirven de barómetro para saber que vamos por buen camino. Ojala nos podamos ver pronto en muchos mas festivales, en muchos mas conciertos, sin mascarillas y sin distancias.
During the 2019 “De La Palabra” (of the Word) festival, we improvised a couple of songs during a night in which some space came available on stage, and spontaneously we met the director of such a phenomenal event, Alberto de Paz, who extended an invitation to us to participate the following year.
I already had the idea going through my mind to bring a repertoire in Spanish and with original songs and I thought it would also be great to be able to launch this project right here, in Garafia, the town where I live and where I am inspired daily to do what I make. I took a mental note and I said to myself, -I will start preparing … then, everything happened, the pandemic took us by surprise, plans fell apart, we had to change direction and reinvent strategies, even a great fire consumed a large part of our mountains and affected many families … and so I thought that the festival would be canceled like so many other events, and at times I lost motivation. But one morning in August I received a call from Alberto -Hi Yaiza, do you remember I wanted you to participate in the festival? Are you still interested? It will be held next month!- my answer was a resounding yes! and then almost at the same time some panic and a race to finish the songs and ensemble the team of musicians that would accompany me.
And in this way, my motivation was ignited again and we closed the festival with a concert and the official presentation of the project “The Awara Lady”. Thanks to Alberto for giving me the opportunity, to the Garafia town hall and its cultural sector for supporting us by even providing a venue to be able to rehearse on the eve of the festival, and to the neighbors who surround the house of culture for not only putting up with our rehearsals with a smile but also, for encouraging us in these uncertain times for the events sector.
I must admit that it felt really strange (and still is) performing for an audience that wears masks, most of the feedback you get from your audience, like smiles or other pleasant expressions, is lost … but in the end, these are circumstances that cannot stop us from moving on. The applause and words of encouragement at the end of each performance serve as a barometer to know that we are on the right track. Hopefully we can see each other soon in many more festivals, in many more concerts, without masks and without distances.
